Grid method (2-digit × 2-digit)

Split each number into tens and ones, put them in a grid, then multiply.

Example: 52 × 38
 ×   |  50  |   2

 30  |1500  |  60
  8  | 400  |  16

1500 + 400 + 60 + 16 = 1976

Expanded column method

Line up ones and tens. Multiply the ones first, then the tens, then add.

Long multiplication (the grown-up way)

Multiply by the ones digit first. Then add a zero placeholder and multiply by the tens digit. Add the two rows.

Common mistake: forgetting the 0 placeholder. That's the mistake Olive made in question 3!

Lattice / Italian method
