Grid method (2-digit × 2-digit)

Split each number into tens and ones, put them in a grid, then multiply each pair. Add them all up at the end.

Example: 52 × 38

1500 + 400 + 60 + 16 = 1976

Expanded column method

Line up ones and tens. Multiply the ones first, then the tens, then add.

Long multiplication (the standard way)

Multiply by the ones digit first. Then add a zero placeholder and multiply by the tens digit. Add the two rows.

Common mistake: forgetting the 0 placeholder — that's exactly what Olive did in question 3.

Lattice / Italian method

Draw a grid the size of your digits. Split each box with a diagonal. Multiply each pair of digits and write each product split by the diagonal (tens above, ones below). Add along each diagonal, carrying where needed.
